Its official. GEICO (cas co), Insurance Company 41491, has lost market share according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

GEICO loses market share despite having spend OVER twice as much as the next insurer. I PREDICT DOOM FOR GEICO! You can only screw over so many injured people that you are REQUIRED BY LAW TO HELP, before they tell enough other people and no amount of cute ads covering your bad behavior will cover the truth. GEICO IS EVIL! Get in a serious crash, and you might wish you had died instead of dealing with them!

Unfortunately, there are lots of people who have good reputable insurance companies and if someone insured by GEICO hits you, you are going to have to deal with their nonsense and suffer and likely have a long drawn out trial. (which they will settle, immediately before trial, in almost all cases). Inform others so less people will have to suffer from GEICO's irresponsibility.

So what to expect now? My guess is they will have to come out with some new ads, and lots more money to do so. They will "reevaluate" some customers (ie raise rates) to keep their profits up. And the cycle will continue. The thing is, this is a never ending pit. GEICO needs to reform. In addition, I have noticed a massive rash of Bad Faith Claims against GEICO. After my experience, I am not at all surprised. GEICO deserves more Bad Faith Claims. And I think they are all coming.

Here is a quote from Royal Allen in California. I think he nicely sums up the experience of GEICO claims. "The people at Geico behave as though they are paying out the claims out of their own pockets. They are irrational and they lie. This experience has become a nightmare. I have had to be on the phone with Geico pretty much every day for a month, fighting with them. Having airbags deploy in my face and bruising up my arms was not nearly as bad as dealing with Geico. I would highly suggest that you STAY AWAY from Geico. Especially if you are located in the Los Angeles area. The local representatives here are HORRIBLE and you will never get them on the phone, they will call you back EVENTUALLY. I cannot stress enough the pain you may endure if you have an accident and have to deal with Geico, whether it's your insurance or that of the person who crashes into you.

Geico gets it wrong twice

Though we have been happy with our Allstate policy and agent, we wanted to check the rates that were out there. As a basis of comparison, we got quotes for 100/300 bodily injury liability. The quote came back quite a bit lower than Allstate. I called to verify how an umbrella policy for additional liability would begin to cover us and I was told that it was 300,000. That part is true. When I asked if there would be any gaps in coverage because of the 100/300 BI, I was told there was not a gap. That is not true. I called back a second time and was very specific and asked if there were damages between the 100,000 per person amount and the 300,000 per occurrence amount, who would pay and the rep told me I was covered. Wrong again. It was only after I sent an email to customer service that I got the correct answer. To be adequately covered with the umbrella the BI limits would have to be 300/300 so there would be no gap. This obviously changes the initial quote I received. The reps are either lying or they don't know what they are talking about. We'll be staying with Allstate.

Got in a car accidident on Wednesday, eight days later, nobody has even looked at the car. They are totally incompetent. Claims doesn't know what towing is doing, and appraisors don't even know where the car is. I totally moved because of their inexpensive costs, lesson learned, you get what you pay for.

n 01.29.2010, Royal Allen from Los Angeles, California I had a car accident on 4/28/07 in Beverly Hills California. A Honda Civic pulled in front of me as I drove down the street and I t-boned it in my Porsche Boxster. Even though it was obviously his fault (the police report even said so) he denied responsibility so his insurance company (USAA) told me I would either have to go through my insurance (Geico) or wait the 1-2 months for the investigation to complete. Of course I chose the latter.

I bought the car 5 months ago for $34,000 and added a $7,000 bodykit and had Geico insure my aftermarket items (they charged me for it). The Geico adjuster (Jason Wood) offered me $31,000. When I challenged the adjuster's offer, he told me that the bodykit only offered a $850 increase in the resell value. He simply could not understand that I didn't insure my car for resell, but REPLACEMENT in case of an accident, which I thought was the purpose of car insurance in the first place. I ended up having to call his supervisor (Mario), which was no help, so I called his supervisor (Manuel) too. After explaining my situation over and over he finally realized what I was getting at and offered to pay for the bodykit reimbursement. He said he would pay the full value of the kit because it was only 5 months old. Jason Wood (adjuster) came back with another value, which again needed to be corrected because he failed to notice I had litronic (HID) headlights. Luckily for me it only took 24 hours for them to correct the amount I was owed, $39k.

I was told I needed to contact Geico in Georgia to receive my check. They told me that since I was in a rush and I owned the Boxster I could simply go to my adjuster and exchange my car's title for the check. I called Jason and he said he didn't have checks. Geico Georgia told me that I could overnight my title to them and have a check overnighted back. I paid the $20 and overnighted my title to Geico Georgia. I called Geico to make sure they were sending me my check, and the girl told me that they were sending me a check for $31,000! I notified her that she was incorrect, so she said she'd call my adjuster but since he didn't answer they'd have to get back to me. I called them back 30 minutes later and they told me that they got the correct amount verified but that they RAN OUT OF CHECKS and that I would have to wait until Monday (it's Thursday). I told her that that was ridiculous and asked for her supervisor. The woman came back online after 5 minutes and told me that they were sending me out a check today, and that they would call me back soon with a tracking number. I waited an hour then called them back. She said they didn't have checks and that someone was looking for some. I asked her what time it was in Georgia and she said 5pm. Then I asked her how they were going to overnight me as check at 5pm, and she said "I guess it won't be."

My story, on Jan 19, 2007, I was sitting at a stop sign. A vehicle approached from the left, never stopped for his stop sign, side swiped my truck hitting the rear wheel and sped off. I pulled over to the curb, called the police and waited. The police responded and made a report. It was 10:30 at night so I called first thing the next morning to report the claim.

I called and was givent he name of an investigator that would handle my claim and would call back. I waited and no call. I called back and was told to bring the vehicle in to have the damages inspected. I did so. The adjuster inspected the damages and gave me a check for the amount of damages minus $500.00 (collision deductible). Remember, I was sitting still and was hit. It was not my fault. I called back and spoke to the investigator that was assigned to me and after receiving the police report, she mailed me a check for $250.00.

Ok. They tell me I must put the truck in the shop on a Monday because they will not pay for the weekend rental only Mon-Thur, the time they estimated it would take to make repairs. I can only get an appointment for the following week as it is already Monday when I call the Cadillac body shop. Now, I have to drive a black truck with green paint down the side of the it for a week. I get it to the shop and the wheel that the driver hit is bent. This is when the major problems start. You see, I have custom wheels on my truck.

First they tell me they will not cover the wheel because it is aftermarket and I did not have the aditional coverage. I explained to them that no one ever told me I needed this additional coverage and that the vehicle was physically inspected before they wrote the policy and these were the wheels on the vehicle at that time. Ok, now its March 2, 2007. It has taken them this long to go to the body shop inspect the wheel to see if it was damamged. Finally, they decide to cover the damage as it is an uninsured motorists claim and they did inspect the vehicle so they have to cover it as is. End of story right... WRONG! After searching for two weeks the dealer cannot locate a match for my wheel. Great they found one and its on the way from Florida. Oops, no it isn't. We forgot, this wheel is no longer manufactured. Cadillac calls me to pick it up and pays me the price of a replacement wheel which of course is 250.00 less than we actually paid. Now what? I drive my truck home impeding traffic as I am scared to drive it with the rim wobbling.

I contact the company we purchased them from along with another company and they contact the manufacturer and cannot get one. I now have a truck with three wheels on it. I cannot put the factory wheel back on it as it is two sizes smaller than the custom wheels. I contact my original claims adjuster. Yeah, I had a couple that they kept switching between. I explain that the wheel is no longer manufactered and the factory wheels have bad tires on them and I still have no vehicle to drive. What to do? He explained to me that in situations like this, and I quote- "we will either provide you with a set of new tires so you can put your factory wheels back on the truck and drive it of we have to replace a complete set of matching wheels of equal value". I opted for the latter. He further goes on to tell me to shop around over the weekend to find a set of wheels that are comparable and fax my results to him on Monday. I call him to get the fax number and he tells me that he spoke to his supervisor about this and they have decided that they only owe me for the one wheel and thats all they will pay. I contact his supervisor explain the situation and he basically tells me I'm out of luck and that I need to search ebay to try to find a matching wheel. At this point, I'm livid as I am still without a vehicle and it is March 21, 2007.

I am still searching the internet in hopes of finding a matching wheel. Geico reps aren't as freindly as they were in the beginning. To add insult to injury, I have now incurred costs for a $250.00 deductible and $348.00 for the fees they would not pay for the rental I had. I am waiting to hear from the Maryland Department of Insurance who I might add agrees that I should be compensated since this is after all an Uninsured Motorist Claim!

Oh yeah, did I mention my family and I now have to rent a vehicle to take a prepaid trip we planned months ago.

Please don't get fooled by the heavy Marketing

A few years ago I had an excellent driving record and GEICO as my autoinsurance. It cost me a major stress and depression in my life. I was in an accident hit by a truck from behind and propelled into a car in front. My car was totaled, I had a brain concussion. Police came right after the accident, took statements from all drivers (the one who hit me recognized it, the one abstained from telling her story). Police supported me all through the drama. Geico adjuster did not bother to follow properly on my claim, and I was accused by the driver who was in front of me in hitting her, than the insurance of the truck driver who hit me refused to pay me a penny. Police officers told me that the accuser worked for their department and showed up to work in good health. An accident reconstructionist took a look at my car and was ready to testify for me, but GEICO, opposite to me, to the police, and to the expert, struck a deal behind my back, proclaiming me guilty of the accident with all the consiquences: I did not get paid for was treated like a liar. My brain concussion was undiagnosed timely and a month after the car crash I had a memory loss accident that involved me into another auto accident. Only three years later I came back to normal life, still having physical problems.

I WILL NOT GO WITH GEICO EVER AGAIN FOR NO MATTER WHAT!!! IT IS A MAJOR LOSS OF MONEY AND HEALTH IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. IT IS WHEN YOU NEED THEM THEY FAIL YOU!!!

I was just recently in my very first accident when another GEICO insurance carrier lost control of her car, slid right in front of me causing me to swerve out of the way to miss her. Unfortunantly I made contact with her and a snow covered median. I had double impact, and I have pretty substantial injuries.

The other driver admitted fault for the accident (which she is now denying) and the cops issued a citation to her and NO improper driving on my behalf. I contacted GEICO that evening and they assured me everything would be taken care of and I "shouldn't" have to pay anything since she was cited for the accident.

I got a phone call the next day from a GEICO adjuster, after visiting my doctor and chiropractor, to give a statement which they recorded.

The adjuster I spoke to NEVER MENTIONED WHICH GEICO CUSTOMER THEY WERE THE ADJUSTER FOR! Little to my knowledge the adjuster who called me was the other drivers adjuster. Since I had injuries it was eventually sent to an "H" level adjuster. This adjuster ALSO NEVER MENTIONED WHICH CUSTOMER THEY WERE WORKING FOR. It took GEICO FIVE days (that's right FIVE days) to get ME an adjuster.

Going on 4 weeks later the other adjuster is telling me I am 75% at fault for the accident. How I'm supposedly 75% at fault for an accident I was never cited for, or caused, is beyond me!

It has gotten so bad my doctor put me on medication because GEICO has made my life a living hell and I had to hire a lawyer to take care of all my dealing with GEICO.

My adjuster and attorney are still bickering with the other adjuster over his clients fault. Eventhough there was a police report made, the other adjuster told me it doesn't matter. What good is it to get a police report and have someone cited for an accident if they don't even take it into consideration?

This is the WORST customer service, WORST coverage, WORST experience EVER!

I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!

A Geico insured driver pulled in front of me on the highway and totalled my BMW. Luckily I was paying attention and manuevered the car enough to avoid any deaths. After 5 WEEKS of attempting to get hold of the Geico liability agent, someone finally contacted me to apologize, admit Geico "totally dropped the ball" and informed me their driver only had 25k in limits and I should file a claim with my own insurance. I was livid - it took them 5 weeks to figure that out - but I filed the claim. The following day my company contacted me to say the Geico people realized this was their fault, that the limits were NOT going to be a problem, and they would take care of me. A Geico rep called to inform me the same thing. Another 4 weeks passed as I was ignored by my Geico rep so I finally faxed in my own spreadsheet detailing my losses and expected reimbursements. Three days later my Geico rep left a message on my phone saying their driver only had 25k in liability limits and I should file a claim with my own insurance company - yes, the same rep who weeks earlier had apologized profusely and told me DON'T WORRY, we blew it and we are goig to make it up to you. I was livid and called demanding to speak to someone "in charge". The in-charge person claimed that never in all his years in the industry has he seen something like this, and he was going to take care of me right away. It's been a week now.... haven't heard back from him....

I am an insurance rep in NJ I just want to warn you to be carful of discounts that seem too good they mostly are - it seems that once you get your policy ( that customers have been telling me) is the coverages are usaly lower than what they had. If they had the same coverages the preimiums would have not been lower or only slightly lower. DO Not take anyones word for coverages check you policy the last thing you want to do is find out in court or the hospital that you do not have enough coverage.

I was a GEICO customer for over 8-years and had no complaints about them until I had to use their claims department. I was rear-ended on August 1st by someeone who had GEICO, and I was injured in the accident. When the adjuster called me a few days after the accident, she was automatically defensive and accusational, and even YELLED at me about the accident and my injuries. I reminded the adjuster that I was the VICTIM in the accident, and that I was INJURED, and all I wanted was to get my car fixed, have GEICO pay my medical bills, and also any lost wages. She stated that it was hard to believe the injuries I had sustained in the accident were worth going to the doctors over, and if I was missing work make sure I had a good dr. that would justify the time off, as I was not hit "that hard". I was also told that if I wanted my car fixed quickly I woud have to take my car to their preferred location and drop the car off. She also stated that I had to make arrangements for my own replacement transportation and submitt receipts for the expense after my car was fixed. When I called the location, the gentleman had no idea what I was talking about, no one at GEICO called him and stated that if I left my car at his location, he would not be able to get it fixed for weeks. To this day, my medical bills are not paid, and my lost wages are not paid, and the adjuster stopped returning my calls. It is now in the hands of my attorney. After 8-years of GEICO taking my money, they really treated me like a piece of trash, and showed me how much I didn't matter to them. Needless to say, I am now insured with a different company, and no matter how much I am charged by other companies, I will NEVER go back to GEICO and I will NEVER refer anyone to GEICO.

My Wife took my truck to the appointment and was treated extremely bad by your adjuster. She complained to me that the man was disrepective, smart elic, snappy, and rude. There were quite a few questions that she wanted to ask but, was lectured or shunned every time she spoke and didn't feel like she needed to communiucate to this man any more. That evening when I got home I called the man to ask the same questions that I directed her to ask and got the same abuse that she recieved. I was completely enraged. His name is Stephen McCord. Please coach this employee on respecting the customer and thank him for the loss of any future business from me, my family, and any one else that I come across that is looking for insurance.

Being Military I took out GEICO 20 years ago. My daughter had two accidents that totaled 2000.00 One was 650 the other 1350. Geico sent a letter cancelling my 17 year old daughter. I demanded a contact to complain. They gave me a 800# with a recording. I went to ALLSTATE. Not only were their rates cheaper. I was also given a PERSONAL agent I could go to with problems and she even follows up with me on her concerns. They dropped the first at fault charge stating since my daughter was only 30% she was not at fault. I pay 800 less a year for that. I WILL NEVER BE WITH GEICO AGAIN! THEY HAVE NOT LOYALTY NOR RESPECT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS! I'd like to run over that lizard.

My open complaint about GEICO Insurance submitted to insurance commission

Thank You for taking the time to look at this.

I have provided the suggested documentation from my doctor stating that treatment was directly related to the car crash and was medically necessary. Regarding medical record releases: They have had medical releases in their possession for quite some time. If GEICO led you to believe, they do not have medical releases they are being untruthful. I also have a confirmation letter stating that they received the medical releases. Despite having received all of this GEICO has made no additional contact with me concerning resolving this claim. I feel they are stalling.

I initially contacted the insurance commission substantially before a demand letter or the full package of evidence had been submitted to GEICO because of the way they were behaving. I thought it amounted to bad faith and wanted to know the laws concerning this. I was told by Morris Chavez to wait until I had an official response in writing before submitting an official complaint. Which I did.

My initial concerns are as follows.

1. Immediately after the crash they raised my premium by $20/month without any notice. (It is set for automatic debit paid in full for 6 months at a time). When I asked why the premium had been raised they

1^st said they did not know why and I would have to call back to speak to someone else.
2^nd time I called they said I called after hours and they can only answer those kind of questions during business hours, and they would leave a message for someone to call later.
3^rd time I called they said they did not raise my rates, that they are the same as before.
I asked for a supervisor, they then said oh I see you had elected to use your car for business. I told the person I did not do that, and that clearly it was because of the claim and that since this was an uninsured motorist and have no blame in this crash my personal rates should not be raised. They said they would look into it and to call back after some time (I think they said 5 business days, but I am not sure).
I then called back and they said that they no longer cover any business vehicles and that the rate was dropped back to what it was pre-crash.
When I called a couple days later to confirm the rate, they said it had never been changed and they have no evidence of any changes in rate. (The debit card was refunded)

2. Refusal to provide a copy of the contract covering the time during the crash, the current contract and the contract from when I first signed up. I asked for a contract policy a minimum of 12 separate times and have been told the following:

By the claims adjuster, that I would need to contact customer service for that information.
Customer service repeatedly sent me the policy coverage document, though I read it word for word and told them that was not what I wanted but I wanted the actual contract with the legal terms.
That they (the person on the phone) don’t have access to contracts and someone would call back with access.
When I would call back, they would say they have nothing in their file confirming the previous conversation or that someone would call back.
Over the email, they said email was not secure and could not be used for official business.
Several customer service representatives argued with me about why I needed the contract and insisted I do not need one.
That the renewal notice has the policy changes on it, and that is all I need to know.
That if I want to know the policy I just need to call and ask them and that would suffice.
That they find it suspicious and doubt my motives for wanting a copy of the contract and will be putting that “in my file”.
That I should have kept the original contract from 2001.
That they did not store records that long and since I am an older customer they would have to research it.
Then upon a call back was told that they can not do this because I am now enrolled in e-policy and have no paper documents.
I must go to the online customer service center and the contract would be there. I went to the customer service center online and the contract was not there. I repeatedly was told that they had updated it in the system and if I go look in 24 hours the contract would be there. It was not, and continues to not be available online.
Eventually I received a generic copy with legal terms but I do not know what exactly this refers to since I asked for the original contract, the contract that covered the crash, and the current contract.

3. They have repeatedly minimized liability and said the following things.

You are not even the primary driver, so we really don’t owe you anything.
You aren’t on the title of the crashed car, so you really have no claim.
The payment comes in the primary drivers name so you really are trying to collect on a policy that isn’t really yours.
We don’t owe you anything, this offer is just out of courtesy and to avoid hassle.
If I had health insurance, part of the bills would be covered by them, so they only owe part of the health care and they should not be penalized because I do not have health insurance.
If I had workers compensation, then part of the lost wages would fall under that insurance so they do not cover lost wages. (I was not working during the crash).
In regards to paying the current Chiropractic charges, which was completed earlier, that they are not responsible for the interest charges, can only issue 1 check, and if I am concerned about my credit and accruing interest then I should just settle the entire claim now. (This was before medical treatment and evidence was complete)

4. Geico repeatedly has been difficult and uncooperative in evidence about the case.

They repeatedly said they could not look a video or an mp3 at the crash due to security on their computer.
They said they do not need and will not look at witness letters and that witnesses are not considered.
They said they do not care what the CEO of my company says my wages are.
When they have refused to look at and evaluate evidence I have submitted I asked what would be acceptable evidence and they said they can not tell me what they will accept or they make a ridiculous demand (prove that you have no pre-existing conditions, prove your income for the past 5 years, prove you didn’t have nightmares about your head being cut off before this crash)
When I have gotten them to say what they will accept/need as evidence, after it is submitted, they say they want something different. (My letter to Supervisor Amy Akins explains this in more detail).

5. GEICO has been uncooperative and condescending with no interest in reasonably solving this claim

Quote “I have been in an accident before and I didn’t have any problems”.
Paraphrase “You are athletic and healthy, so you recovered quickly and there really wasn’t much damage, besides, if there is any you would heal quickly”
They continuously make up stories and alternate explanations instead of simply relying on facts and then tell me I must counter their alternate explanation. Ex, “Can you prove that you had not had medical treatment before”. “Can you prove that your lost wages are not due to simply going on vacation after the crash”, “Why didn’t you just work later in the day to make up for work lost while at the doctors”.
Saying that since I called 911 there was no real damage or stress.
Calling at exact opposite hours that I requested and not being available when I set up a time in advance to speak with them.
When I told them I would like them to stop calling me until I had fully recovered, as I was feeling more upset and aggravated by their constant adversarial calls, they called more often and continued pressuring me into accepting low ball offers below medical bills and lost wages.
Regularly sent letters saying that they will close the case in 15 days.
Would call and leave blank messages on my voice mail, using mute.
They have refused to give accurate information from the beginning concerning medical care, forms/evidence needed and claims processing.
Said they needed my “statement” 3 separate times. On the last occasion, I said “why do you need another statement”, and was told that if I don’t do another statement then I am probably guilty or have something to hide. (I did the 3^rd statement).
In a call by Brandon Berry, he screamed at the top of his lungs for 35 minutes straight and continuously tried to get me to say inaccurate things.
GEICO adjusters, have in a non-stop manor, tried to get me to say inaccurate things and when I will not they get abusive and angry.
Refusing to give me the supervisor’s information (Andrea Restuccia did this).

6. They have completely ignored certain factors in the crash

That I was trapped in the car, in heavy freeway traffic, as the doors were inoperably smashed.
That another car crash happened exactly opposite of me.
That emergency personnel went to the more deadly crash, instead of me, prolonging my wait.
I had to call 911 twice before anyone came to my aid.
That another illegal driver came speeding up the side of the road in an attempt to illegally pass traffic, putting my life in danger yet again.
The fact that the police were unable to catch the other driver combined with the fact that I was 100% innocent and this crash was inevitable made this more emotionally traumatizing.

To date, I have not seen or even heard of a single piece of documentation that GEICO has that contradicts anything I have asserted.

I was buying my first car and had been under my parents policy. I was deciding between 2 cars and called for a quote on both, (figuring that the lower priced one would be better car). They told me since I was moving out of my parents home I should get my own policy. I did. I set up automatic debit, decided on a car, and all was well until I checked my bank account. My dad is a lawyer. He got my money back and my whole family moved their GEICO policy. AND then guess what, they put it down in some file that they CANCELED US. Not true. My dad is taking them to court for this. If your dad is not an attorney you are going to regret picking GEICO.

I Hate geico.

When I was about 20 yrs old they called me up and offered me insurancethat was cheaper than I was paying. I advised them at the time my wifeand I each had one ticket within the last 2 yrs. Who owns GEICOsucks.com and ihategeico.com - You guessed it GEICO.

I was looking though some GEICO customer comments and I found a plethora of obviously fake comments most likely posted by GEICO employees. LMAO at some of these comments. Some go so far as to give their selves compliments about their excellent service. rotfl.

Here's one quote "You must treat all your employees well because it has a trickle down effective to the customer...just AWESOME. Keep up the good work!!" funny, because disgruntled GEICO employees are everywhere. In fact if you do a search for GEICO complaints it is the employee complaints that show up about 70% of the time, including class action lawsuits.

Also, I have been updating the GEICO wiki and somebody (I think GEICO) then reupdates it with incorrect, all positive information about them. If they spent more time actually resolving customer complaints and less time stiffling customer complaints they wouldn't have to spend so much on commercials. YOU CAN'T FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME. Don't be another fool.

OK, So you have had it with the nonsense and want to do something. Here is a link with current up to date state by state information about who is the responsible person and organization. www.naic.org/state_web_map.htm insurance regulators

Now, let me warn you, what they do is simply determine if illegal things have taken place. They generally don't help with a**holes, unless your state requires politeness. (which it probably doesn't) They can help clear out the nonsense. For example, in my own case, I was in a hit and run and had insurance with GEICO that covered this. The GEICO adjusters regularly spent time saying that I wasn't really covered for this or that reason, and that I wasn't really hurt, and spent hours coming up with creative alternate explanations. Once the insurance commission was on the case, they stopped all this nonsense. At least directly to my face they stopped.

At a minimum, it helps reduce the stress, because they will restrict the illegal stuff they say. At a maximum they could be disallowed to offer insurance in your location.

This data comes directly from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners which has a data base that is a clearinghouse for insurance complaints made to state insurance regulators. This particular file also accounts for ratio of customers to complaints. Geico has only 3% of the market, but 3 TIMES the rate of complaints that go so far as to be officially recorded in the state insurance departments!

The moral of the story. GEICO RIPS PEOPLE OFF. Sure some of them seam a little lower on the IQ scale, (only a couple) but that doesn't mean when there is a crash you get to destroy them. Leave people with unbelievable hassle, pain, inconvenience and medical bills. It is JUST THE WRONG THING TO DO!

And keep in mind, GEICO is significantly (in same cases over 3 TIMES) the rate of other insurance complaints. They are found incorrect and VIOLATING STATE INSURANCE LAWS by the State Insurance Commissions over 3 TIMES THE AVERAGE RATE!!!

There should be a class action lawsuit. and /or stiffer penalties. Obviously the penalties in place are NOT GOOD ENOUGH, as they don't curb the GREED. THE SELFISHNESS. THE WILLINGNESS to INFLICT HARM on INNOCENT VICTIMS. Every GEICO commercial you see, hear and pass by on the billboard... know that is is paid for by the suffering of innocent victims. Every laugh is built on tears and suffering. On the unpaid medical bills. On unpaid loss of income. On permanent injuries.

Everyone understands the desire to make a profit. But making money off the purposeful pain and suffering of people is less than human...Only a scally untruthful reptile would do such a thing. oh wait. Were they giving us a Freudian Slip all along.....

The initial call to Geico was great. Melissa, the operator who received my call was gracious, sweet, and understanding. Upon telling her the story of the accident, she said she would wave the "first 50 miles" clause, and allow me to get my car towed to my shop of choice, All Phase Automotive in Nyack, NY. So, after I thought I would have the car towed the next day, I rented a car (on my own dime, damned lack of rental coverage), and drove back.

For the next two days, Geico refused to find a tow operator to get my car towed to my shop of choice, and said they would only pay to have it towed some where in CT (despite my willingness to pay for the extra miles), and ended up referring me to Durable Radiator and Auto-body in Waterbury, CT.

Now with the car still in front of my friend's house, it took Durable a further two days to pick the car up, and a full three weeks to allow for a Geico adjuster to even get an estimate, which initially came to $6200. Every call placed to either Geico, or Durable yielded no result save for blaming of the other party. It was either a computer problem on Durable's end with concern to submitting the claim, or Geico not receiving the correct info. Either way, my spidey senses were tingling on this one.

With the estimate finally completed it was merely a waiting game. On Feb 13th, I placed a call to Durable to find out when the car would be ready, and was told it was in painting (the same answer I would then get for the next two weeks of calls). Finally, on March 5th, a day shy of the three month mark, I was told my car was ready and could pick it up. So, come that Friday, I schlepped from my home to the shop, picked up my car, and being happy to have my car back, did not give it the thorough examination I should have, at the time trusting an authorized Geico shop. This is where the fun truly begins.

The following day was the first instance of night driving that occurred after I picked up the car. What happened you ask? No odometer and speedometer lights. Now, I'm starting to panic. I'm asking myself what else could be wrong? So, the following Monday, as soon as they open, I bring the car to the shop I wanted to from the very beginning. Mike, ever the great shop owner puts my car on priority, and proceeds to check it as I head back to work. Not an hour later, he finds GLARING repair issues ranging from aftermarket parts that were not installed properly, to shoddy painting, parts that were billed but never replaced, and the best part, a bent frame. Not being one to stand around and watch a friend and customer be taken advantage of, Mike begins the process of getting a claims adjuster back down to his shop to look things over. Upon doing so the next day (now the 11th) Bryan, the new adjuster totals the car. Upon explanation of my bill, he tells me that although the initial amount was $6200, Durable charged an extra $3000!!! for supplement work they did not even do properly.

So, at this point, although I am livid, I feel a bit of justification seeing as the right thing was being done. The next day, I get a call telling me they cannot total the car. My heart sinks. How could Geico total the car one day, and UNTOTAL it the next? This sort of thing would have been inconceivable to me before this moment. Fortunately, the following day they re-totaled the car, and I was told I should get a check within five business days. Sounds all well and good right?

Well, after three separate phone calls to the total loss representative assigned to my case, I have not yet received word back, and I am still left carless, and with no idea when I am to receive my check. Not only was my car not repaired properly, but because Geico steered me to one of their shops illegally, I've been without a car for close to four months, and thus far have no recourse. I just felt that although their commercials appear to allow them to perform small to large miracles, this time around, they failed me as a customer, and as such, the loyal readers of The Consumerist should know to beware.

GEICO said they wouldn't pay. I pointed to the part of my insurance contract where it specifically noted I was covered for any vehicle I'm driving as an incidental driver. GEICO stalled and didn't call either of us back for weeks.

Six months later, it's finally all wrapped up satisfactorily. My Godfather, being a lawyer, just sued me and GEICO. They paid without further provocation after getting their local lawyer in the loop.

Unfortunately, this all happened in Louisiana, which despite low population, low median value of cars, and low per year mileage, has some of the absolute WORST drivers in the world. Insurance companies take forever to resolve anything in LOuisiana, and the body shop work I've had done there is apalling - it takes 3-4 visits back to the body shop to get anything fixed right..

Since the car was stolen years ago, I can't hope to get it back. They stalled me for over a year, using lame excuses like "The check is sitting here on my desk, I just need to have it signed," to "You haven't received it? My goodness, I mailed it a week ago. Well, I mailed it, so there's nothing more I can do."

This is why my uncle hates GEICO. Someone totalled his VW bug back in the 80s, and they never gave him a dime. You can kinda tell how terrible an insurance company is by how interesting they need to make their advertising. Because no one will pick them by word-of-mouth!
